The transformation of the East Village’s St. Marks Place into a Japanese-Korean enclave continues with the arrival of this “mod” new Korean; its sleek, spare setup puts the focus on the food, notably “outstanding” “hand-lacquered” fried chicken from the BonChon franchise.

The Bon Chon chicken was truly awesome. I would definitely go back again just for their Bon Chon chicken and drinks :).
    •  The BonChon spicy chicken was awesome! I liked the other Korean food but thought the spicing was too similar across all the dishes. Great company, good pink sake and the shuju was killer...

On a snowy Tuesday evening, Boka provided a warm and inviting setting for a very satisfying Meetup. Its employees greeted us pleasantly. They had a record of our reservation. They seated us promptly at a table that was a bit too small for our group. Our servers did not introduce themselves or review the menu and the day's specials. Our orders were delivered promptly and correctly. The main dishes were served in very ample portions. The spicy Bon Chon chicken was meaty, moist, fried to a perfect crisp and deliciously peppery. The ingredients in all of the other dishes were very fresh, if not of the absolute best quality. The spicy dishes suffered from a heavy-handed use of red pepper sauce. Alex and Gillis graciously shared their sake with the group, and I introduced the participants to Korea's colorless, almost flavorless, but still potent shoju. Boka's dark, informal environment and private party room were clearly popular with young, hip, mostly Asian crowd. We'll be back!
