    •  Interesting idea and event! Thanks, David!
    •  Lecturers Bruce Sterman, Manhattan Chili Co. and Rob Immer, Southern Tier Brewing, rocked the house. You could say "How could they fail with a topic of Chili & Beer?" but they totally went the extra mile. We were treated to knowledgeable insights and amusing anecdotes that kept everyone listening in rapt attention, even with a non-stop stream of delicious chilies and beers delivered to our "desks" in the great Whole Foods Culinary Center. Even as a serious, experienced chili and beer "expert" I learned new things about both subjects and as well as good approaches to pairing. I left well stuffed with beer, chili and ideas and am inspired to make a batch right now!

I easily ordered our seats through Acteva. Our hostess greeted us on time at the Culinary Center's door. We were seated promptly in its intimate, well-organized space. The evening's host introduced himself and reviewed housekeeping details. Bruce and Rob, the presenters, provided some background information regarding their businesses. They supported their presentation with documentation and complimentary hats and beer glasses. The samples of chili and beer were delivered promptly. Regretfully, some of the pairings did not match those listed on the evening's schedule. I liked all of the chilis prepared with beef, and thought that the Chain Gang Texas Style was the clear standout. It was rich, flavorful and filled with heat. My favorite beers were the Unearthly Imperial IPA and the Heffenweise. As a result of this field-test, I am willing to attend other events at the Culinary Center and want to sample more of the Manhattan Chili Company's and Southern Tier's offerings.
